Pakistan follows liberal investment regime and facilitation being its foremost cornerstones for investors’ confidence and conducive environment to attract local and foreign investment Board of Investment (BOI) is mandated to promote, encourage and facilitate both local and foreign investment. Thus BOI acts as interface between international and local investors, public and private sector. BOI works for enabling business environment through policy and strategic interventions. Till 1997, Pakistan pursued the investment policy favorable for the industrial and manufacturing sector. The first Investment Policy was framed by BOI in 1997 which opened all economic sectors including infrastructure, social, and services for foreign investment. Keeping in view the importance of investment for economic growth and fast economic globalization trends around the world, Investment Policy 2013 was formulated to further improve the investment climate in the country. Guiding principles of Investment Policy 2013 are given below:

  • Reducing the cost of doing business in Pakistan
  • Reducing the processes of doing business
  • Ease of doing business with creation of industrial clusters and Special Economic Zones
  • Linkages of trade, industrial and monetary policies for greater convergence

Agriculture Specific

1.The foreign investor is allowed to hold 60% stake in agriculture projects.
2. For Corporate Agriculture Farming (CAF), foreign investor shall be allowed to hold 100% equity.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Inaugurated LIMS

6th July, 2023

The Prime minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the Land Information and Management System (LIMS) at Chaklala, Rawalpindi. Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir also participated in the inaugural ceremony. The first management system of its kind in Pakistan that aims at assisting land management, both at the country and farm levels. The system has marked cultural waste lands for planned use. LIMS also offers information on soil quality, water needs, weather forecasts to individual farmers. LIMS has also designed a comprehensive framework to provide real-time information and guidance to farmers such as soil quality, water needs, weather forecast etc.

Green Pakistan Initiative launched

10th July, 2023.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the Green Pakistan initiative aiming at bringing about a second Green Revolution in the country creating over 4 million jobs. Praising the vision of Chief of the Army Staff the Prime minister said “We have to implement the vision for agriculture through collaboration among federal and provincial governments, agriculture departments and research institutes.”

Prime Miniter Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff Gen. Asim Munir inaugurate the country’s first corporate farm at Khanewal. Maj Gen (Retd) Tahir Aslam, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FonGrow, a subsidiary of Fauji Foundation, remarked that ““We launched a modern corporate farming project to take Pakistan’s agriculture to new height. Our main focus area has been import-substitution farming so that domestic production can eventually replace billions of dollar worth of imports.
